The Sacrament of the Sick is a great gift from the Lord. Through prayer and anointing with oil blessed by the Bishop, the sick person receives graces to assist in healing, to strengthen in the face of discouragement, and to forgive sins.
In earlier generations, this Sacrament was labeled “Extreme Unction” or “Last Rites” and was thought to be reserved for those approaching death. However, the Church now celebrates this Sacrament with anyone facing surgery or significant health challenges. And, of course, it still is appropriate for those who are dying. If you or a family member would like to receive the Sacrament of the Sick, please contact the parish office.
