St. Martha SchoolKindergarten Through Eighth Grade

In all grades, Kindergarten to Eight, St. Martha teachers strive to provide an environment that is academically stimulating and socially comfortable while encouraging the students to reach the goals of the school’s mission.  St. Martha uses current theories and practices which help children learn and grow, both individually and as a part of a larger faith and civic community.

Academics

St. Martha features challenging academics balanced with an enhanced fine arts program. The curriculum is based on both state standards and diocesan guidelines. The extended day and year enables St. Martha School to provide a fine arts program which includes guest artists, professional musicians, and theater groups without sacrificing academic time.

Students Learn to Learn

The school focuses on teaching skills. Rather than expecting the students to memorize a body of facts, the goal is for the students to acquire the skills which will enable them to learn across the curriculum. The school focuses on skills such as research skills, comprehension skills, writing skills, test taking skills, etc.

Religion

Religion, based on diocesan guidelines, is taught through the use of Scriptures, textbook, prayer, liturgies, and service projects. Concepts taught in religion class are carefully woven throughout the day in various subjects, activities, and experiences of the children.

Middle School

The instruction for grades five through eight is departmentalized. Students change class and take Math, Language Arts, Science and Social Studies from teachers who specialize in their subjects. The remaining classes are taken from the students’ homeroom teachers.

Specials

Specifically trained instructors give life to curriculum areas such as Technology, Music, Library, Band, & Orchestra, Spanish and Phys. Ed. These classes are offered to all grades once or twice a week.

Extra Curricular Activities

Middle School students have the opportunity to participate in extra curricular programs  such as Drama Club, choir and activities with other Catholic Schools.  In addition they participate in sports through the Catholic Youth League and other area schools, under the direction of the St. Martha Principal and the School Athletic Director.
