                                        Principal, St. Martha Catholic School

With the announced retirement of our current Principal, a unique opportunity exists for the right individual to take on the position of Principal and lead St. Martha School to new levels of success.
 
School Mission Statement:
 
In a loving, nurturing environment, St. Martha School guides each student to develop his or her unique abilities and potential through prayer, study and service.  
 
St. Martha Parish and St. Martha School were founded, respectively, in 1988 and 1993, by the current Pastor. The Pastor is committed to Catholic education and provides supportive leadership in school finance and capital needs. St. Martha School is a traditional Catholic elementary serving children in grades pre-K to 8 with a comprehensive curriculum that includes strong academics and multi-faceted fine arts. Our proximity to Michigan State University provides opportunity for experiential learning. Our commitment to education is demonstrated by a 200-day school calendar and a lengthened school day. Our strong programs draw students from a large geographical area. St. Martha is blessed with dedicated teachers and staff members. Parents tend to be highly involved and place a high value on their children's education. Recognized by Kiplinger magazine as one of the 10 Great Cities for Young Adults and with its relatively low cost of living, the Greater Lansing area is a stand-out in mid-sized cities and an excellent place to raise a family.
 
Qualifications: Successful candidate must be a practicing Catholic with a Masters Degree in School Administration or equivalent with demonstrated skills in instructional leadership, including classroom experience. Must possess skills in effective management of operations, personnel and school finances. Must display excellent oral and written communication skills. Prior experience strongly preferred.

Job Summary: The St. Martha Principal is responsible for the implementation and development of school programs that foster the spiritual, intellectual, social, emotional, and physical growth of students; for the leadership and professional development of the teaching staff in an environment of teamwork and mutual respect; and for marketing and outreach to the sponsoring parish and the general community to maintain the healthy condition and continuing growth of the school. The Principal works closely with the Parish Pastor and the school's Parent Service Organization (PSO) in defining and reaching the strategic goals of the school.
The Principal of St. Martha School must be a strong leader who is committed to guiding the school in the fulfillment of its mission and values, and who will provide spiritual, educational, communication and managerial leadership to the entire school community.

Primary Leadership Roles:
                Spiritual Leadership:
·         Nurtures faith development of students and teachers through personal example.
·         Provides opportunities for students to grow in their faith through liturgies, prayer services, retreats, service opportunities, and other programs.
·         Integrates Gospel values and Christian ethics into curriculum and policies.
·         Collaborates with parish staff to coordinate faith formation activities for students.
 
                Educational Leadership:
·         Develops strong academic environment reflective of our Catholic identity.
·         Provides orderly school environment that encourages positive behavior.
·         Demonstrates understanding of learning objectives of each grade level based on Diocesan standards and the State of Michigan Grade Level Content Expectations and/or Common Core Standards.
·         Integrates curriculum outcomes between grades to ensure continuous academic growth.
·         Observes teachers and students in classroom to strengthen program delivery.
·         Designs staff development programs that expand instructional skills and support annual goals.
·         Guides and approves development of curriculum and extracurricular activities. Reviews strengths of curricula and implements changes. Follows the Diocese of Lansing Curriculum of Catholic Schools in development of curriculum.
·         Responds to individual parent concerns regarding academic and other issues. Ensures parent-teacher conferences are conducted twice during an academic year.
·         Oversees periodic accreditation of the school by the Michigan Association of Non-Public Schools.
 
 
                Communication Leadership:
·         Uses excellent oral and written communication skills when communicating with parents, teachers and students. Uses print and electronic media as appropriate. Uses effective presentation skills when addressing staff, parents, students and the community. Communicates regularly with staff and school families regarding academic year activities and goals.
·         Ensures staff members regularly communicate with school families, using print or electronic media, regarding homework, classroom activities, academic progress, and other relevant information.
·         Communicates program activities and outcomes periodically to sponsoring parish communities.
·         Oversees annual marketing and communication plan to meet enrollment goals. Articulates the mission, values, and program strengths to prospective families throughout the year, at open houses, in private meetings, and through other communications.
·         Oversees coordination of all printed and electronic communication among PSO, parish and parent volunteers.
 
                Management Leadership:
·         Personnel: Creates an atmosphere of trust and support. Recruits and provides orientation to staff.   Evaluates staff consistently and fairly, providing feedback and recommendations for skill development. Provides written annual evaluation to each staff member. Manages administrative support staff effectively, delegating as appropriate.
·         Governance: Works with PSO and Parish Pastor to develop annual strategic plan, identifying key goals and objectives for academic year. Engages staff and volunteers to help achieve goals and objectives. Updates PSO on general program activities, budgetary matters, and progress toward strategic goals, at meetingsand through ongoing communication. 
·         Administrative: Ensures all state and federal operational guidelines are met, including timely submission of required reports. Works with partner organizations, including the Diocese of Lansing, the National Catholic Educational Association, and the Michigan Association of Non-Public Schools in support of program goals. Collaborates with Williamston Public Schools for instruction in non-essential courses under a non-public shared time agreement and Okemos Public Schools for the school lunch program and special education services.
·         Property: Working with Parish Pastor to oversee ongoing maintenance and repairs of building and facilities. Ensures all fire and safety codes are implemented.
·         Financial: Manages financial resources effectively. Invites parish communities to support financial aid program through annual appeal. Seeks funding from government programs providing grant resources. Works with parent volunteers to solicit charitable contributions in support of program goals.
·         Operations: Implements effective and clear procedures for daily operation and functioning of the school. Administers and ensures compliance with school policies and procedures and makes policy recommendations to the Parish Education Commission.
·         Other Duties: Performs other duties as assigned.
